For Monday’s class

Because I let class out early on Wednesday, I still have a few things to say about Thinks…, so please bring your copies to class on Monday. I will be saying a bit, in particular, about the “variant-style” chapters (Chapters 26, 27 and 28, where each narrator adopts a slightly different style; it’s pretty obvious in the cases of Ralph and Helen, but have a look at 28 to see what I mean about the objective 3rd person narrator’s slightly different style).

When you read the Faulkner, Kincaid and Kowal, take notes on the narrators of each story: who is it? what kind of person is it? how does the author’s particular choice of narrator relate to the meaning of the story? Why do I call them “unusual narrators”?

On Monday, I’ll also be talking about the format of the final exam.

Finally, I’ll also be bringing the remaining copies of Report # 1 to class Monday, so please come claim them. Remember that you can’t complete the Final Report without the TA’s specific recommendations on Reports # 1 and # 2, and so you’ll need that hard copy.
